This report refers to the design and construction of a new five-star hotel complex in Zakynthos. Specifically, the complex was developed on a sloping site in the settlement of Akrotiri, less than 1 km from the sea. The hotel consists of 85 suites and 10 villas, and additionally includes a reception area, four restaurants-bars, a traditional tavern, a traditional cafe-lounge, a mini market, a folklore museum, a gift shop, a chapel and a shop with traditional products. Furthermore, the facilities of the complex include wellness areas, spa-massage, outdoor heated pool, gym, kindergarten and a conference room.
The project was constructed in an area of 8.300 sqm, on a field of 41.417,54 sqm, with construction starting in September 2019 and completion in May 2022. The study process lasted five years, from 2017 to 2022 with a cost of implementing up to 30.000.000 euros for the whole project.
The buildings were formed with large parts of their facades covered with stone, sugar-colored plaster, doors and windows in wooden texture while having wooden pergolas on their balconies and entrances. Concurrently, most of the buildings roofs are planted to fit more accurately into the natural environment.
The facades were designed in such way to match harmoniously with the surrounding area and the coexisting residential environment.
The relationship and composition of the buildings were studied deeply in order to satisfy the contemporary requirements of aesthetics and functionality, both in a relation to the environment in which they are located and as individual buildings.
Most of the buildings were developed at different altitude levels following the morphology of the ground, so that they are not presented as single architectural volumes, but as independent sections as well.
Regarding the surrounding area, many flower beds and different levels were created, which were planted with vegetation of the local flora.
The movement between spaces was achieved by paths, with a minimum width of 2 meters. The walls of the surrounding area as well as the curbs of the flower beds were made of stone.
The study and configuration of the outdoor space was designed with absolute environmental conscious and respect.
The conformation of the accommodation concerns to the construction of 85 suites and 10 villas.
The accommodation units were placed in the area in such way to ensure panoramic view of the seafront. This configuration ensured natural lighting and ventilation, while access to each one was achieved by a network of internal paths.
Internally, each accommodation unit was designed with a modern, elegant line and features contemporary comforts and luxuries. The decoration and cladding of the spaces, similarly, were completed with modern furnishings and the use of local materials, wooden elements, earthly tones as well as special lighting giving the spaces a sense of comfort, austerity and luxury at the same time.
