This chair was initially inspired by Japanese origamis. During the development phase though a form was emerged that has in common with origamis only the geometrical appearance. The final form is actually deeply connected with Greek history and mythology reminding Sphinx (ancient Greek and of Yiannis Moralis), Sirens, the Nike of Samothrace and Icarus - from whom it borrows its name.
Two wing-like polygons and a “tail” create a chair that gives wings to its user, like Icarus. Each polygon only touches the ground at one point making this chair referring to the moment that a bird - still on the ground - opens its wings just before it flies away.
