GGEODYNAMIC INSTITUTE OF THE NATIONAL OBSERVATORY OF ATHENS
A polygonal building with a total area of 2,615 sq m has just been completed to house the Geodynamic Institute in Penteli. The building, the construction of which was completed by the GDM Assets team, is located within the complex of the National Observatory of Athens on Koufos Hill in Penteli.
The power of geometry: A polygonal building with sharp angles
Playing strongly with geometry and shapes, focusing on sharp angles and dynamic lines, this polygonal building has four floors and a panoramic view of the whole of Attica, from above. Its creation marks the beginning of a new era for seismological monitoring and scientific research in the country
“Among the facilities of the National Observatory of Athens, the building of the Geodynamic Institute stands out for its special design. Its polygonal floor plan and the prismatic volume resulting from the deviation of the facade from the vertical, give it a strong geometric identity and emphasize its modern character.
The biggest challenge of the project was the very high wind pressure due to the location of the project [at the top of Mount Penteli], which was a requirement for the external frames and which was fully satisfied by the systems installed
Systems used: OPENING-TILT EUROPA EOS60, GLASS CURTAINS ECW50, Internal frames EUROPA 850
Color of choice: RAL 7012 NEOKEM
Construction company: GDM ASSETS
Year of Construction: 2025
