The BA (Hons) International Hospitality Management has been designed by the University of Derby, a TOP5 UK University for Tourism and Hospitality studies, according to the Guardian University Guide, 2020.
The programme’s content follows the standards set by the UK Institute of Hospitality, which lends credibility to your qualification and ensures your learning is up to date and relevant. The degree is designed to give you the management and operational skills needed to succeed in the hospitality industry of the 2020s and beyond. Throughout the course you will participate in a wide range of experiential learning activities, such as fieldtrips, role-plays and simulations, observation, internships in 5* Hotels and guest lectures by industry professionals.
What you will study
The programme develops a broader business management knowledge, as it offers a full range of modern-day hospitality management and business management skills. You will learn to problem-solve and adapt to changing external environments, create innovative hospitality ‘concepts’ and customer experiences while considering sustainability, and plan, manage and evaluate projects.
You, however, will still focus on hospitality, through activities, assessments and specialist modules, giving you a wider skillset when you graduate. Practical modules such as service excellence, rooms division, event/ catering management, revenue management, resort management, will help you have a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship and the international orientation of the hospitality industry.
All your tutors are industry-hoteliers, hotel & department managers, hotel business consultants, providing you with an outstanding learning experience through lectures, practical projects & simulations. Internship in 5* hotels and resorts is a valuable opportunity to gain experience and develop your practical skills ‘on the job’.
