The renovation of the rooms at Iolida Beach redefines contemporary Cretan hospitality through an abstract reinterpretation of the traditional Cretan dwelling. The roughness of the surfaces, the natural character of the materials, the earthy monochromatic palette, and the abundant natural light are combined with clean geometries and contemporary elements, creating a calm and intimate environment for guests.
The spatial organization follows an open-plan approach, integrating the bathroom into the overall experience of the room. In the suites, a freestanding bathtub becomes a central element of the composition, connecting the experience of wellness with the surrounding views and the natural landscape.
Dark timber, natural stone, tactile textures, and handcrafted surfaces create a timeless environment where tradition meets contemporary hospitality. The aesthetic identity is balanced with ergonomics, durability, and functionality, shaping a contemporary retreat in direct dialogue with the distinctive landscape and character of Crete.
The renovation of the reception at Iolida Beach reinterprets Cretan cultural memory through a contemporary hospitality experience. Inspired by the simplicity of traditional Cretan woven rugs, the design translates the language of weaving into a spatial and material concept.
A monochromatic, lime-washed environment is contrasted with dark timber, natural stone, tactile wall finishes, and carefully layered textures. The weaving pattern becomes a contemporary “rug” embedded into the floor, composed of different materials that subtly define and organize the reception areas. This geometric language is repeated across surfaces, details, and furniture, creating a coherent visual identity.
The reception is conceived as an open, flexible environment where arrival, circulation, waiting, and social interaction coexist. A collection of seating areas, varying in scale and character, creates intimate moments within the larger space while maintaining visual continuity and connection to the landscape.
Through materiality, natural light, and human scale, the design transforms the reception into the first expression of Iolida Beach’s identity—where Cretan tradition meets contemporary hospitality.
