The complex is located in the seaside village of Matala, on the southern coast of Crete, surrounded by the area's distinctive rocky formations, which naturally embrace the site.
The design concept originated from the idea of creating a cluster of small-scale buildings organised around a shared internal courtyard—a protected communal square reminiscent of the heart of a traditional village. Referencing Matala's heritage and the values of togetherness and communal life, Adama reinterprets the traditional Greek island neighbourhood, translating its spatial and social qualities into a contemporary hospitality experience.
The building volumes are positioned to provide guests with a sense of privacy while simultaneously encouraging coexistence and social interaction within the central communal square.
