Palmyra Beach is one of Glyfada's most iconic hotels, on the shore line side of Poseidonos avenue. It offers 53 rooms, restaurant, bar, gym, outside pool and conference rooms. The hotel's character is Eco Friendly, emphasizing in sustainable practices, upcycling and the usage of natural products. Palmyra Beach Hotel has been constantly renovating and upgrading its services to remain one of the region's leading hotels.
In 2019, Gekko Concepts was assigned with the redesign of the hotel's outside spaces beyond the swimming pool, by creating a covered outside all day restaurant bar, that would have the capability to operate throughout the year, together with a shaded lounge area. The design, planning and overseeing the works was assigned to Gekko Concepts. The daily supervision of the works was done by the owners.
Emphasis was given to the design of a multifunctional and year-round operational space, that would be capable to support the activities of bleisure customers. Care was taken to ensure that there would be an unbreakable continuity of the interior and exterior spaces, the new space would be climatized and have the capability of open air operation, disabled persons would have access to the bar, a library space together with digital workspaces would serve business and pleasure customers, and the new space would combine privacy and community, offering romantic corners for couples and large tables for comingling.
The Waves Eco Bar Restaurant concept is based on the principles of ecology, sustainability and conservation. In the architectural design, some previous elements were kept, such as the stone waterfall depicting a Greek village. Every effort was made to keep all construction materials with a low environmental footprint, such as upcycled and recyclable products. The wooden covering of the bar consists of upcycled old building wooden materials. The ceiling flora are natural dehydrated flowers. The bookstands and the large dining table are specially designed for bleisure activities, made in solid oak. An aromatic garden of 17 different herbs was created for customers' pleasure. The kitchen makes daily use of the herbs, to give a feeling of garden to table sense. The menu contains vegan and raw food selections. Drinks and potions use fresh ingredients of protected origin.
